The Business of Media

Analyzing the business of media seems like a funny way to start, but it really is the foundation of how media gets released. The idea of Free Markets and Competition are essential determining factors of what kind of media is created. Capitalism, after all, follows the idea of Adam Smith's Invisible hand, and ultimately supplies what is selfishly demanded. Therefore it makes sense to say that the presence of the fairytale in our present day media must indicate some sort of interest and demand for it by the audiences of today.

The Film Ever After was released in 1998 and was produced by 20th Century Fox. As one of the 6 major film studios in the U.S, the production company has economies of scale on its side. With such a large number and variety of facilities, and of course their well known name, the company is capable of making movies such as Ever After and ensuring their success through their large budget, and access to a large set of viewers.

It can be concluded that 20th Century Fox created this movie using the Hotelling effect. The generic drama and romance aspects of the film make it an appealing movie for many female viewers. In addition, the film has produced a relatively family friendly piece of media, expanding the potential audience to include younger viewers. The film also contains the occasional action scene, such as the chase of the gypsy who stole Leonardo da Vinci's painting, and the fight scene with the Gypsies  Humor is also incorporated in various scenes throughout the movie, as well as intense dramatic scenes. The incorporation of aspects of different genres into this one movies, allows the well known production company to attract large audiences with many different preferences.
